Sigrun Gründler was one of the first employees to start off with Porta Holiday in Majorca in 2014. Having trained in hotel management, she became a self-employed property manager and administrator in 2010, and also marketed holiday homes in north Majorca. When she heard that the local number one estate agency – Porta Mallorquina – had founded a subsidiary, Porta Holiday, which would be handling holiday lets, she fell in love with the business idea immediately, and applied for a job.

As a Porta Holiday Host in north Majorca, she is the interface between property owners and holiday guests. She looks after the houses, and welcomes the guests. For Sigrun this was and still is her dream job:

“I love the personal contact with the guests. For me, the most important thing is to welcome the guests and to ensure that they feel at home.”

Porta Holiday was exactly the brand that she needed to give herself a professional image:

“The Head Office handles all of the marketing. I only receive the booking enquiries, and can devote myself to my portfolio and the guests,”

she says, describing the working relationship. In the meantime, she has become the Porta Holiday licence partner North, and is planning to take on an additional employee in 2016. The prospect of investing her commitment and time not in a one-woman show that is entirely dependent on her, but rather in a valuable business that can expand and be sold later on, was one of the main reasons why she joined Porta Holiday.

Tried-and-trusted business model

Pedro Blanco, the newly-minted Porta Holiday licence partner in Majorca Southeast, has a similar opinion:

“The island’s holiday lettings market is booming, but by themselves, individual letting agents barely stand a chance, or have to invest a huge amount of time and money in creating a professional market image.”

After the successful launch in Majorca, Ralf Spielvogel now intends to expand to the Spanish Mediterranean coast, focusing first on the Costa del Sol.
